Four Bedfordshire based charities were the lucky recipients of £50,000, which was part of a national “£3M Give Away” away by English Freemasons to mark our Tercentenary. The above picture shows the wives of three Bedfordshire Freemasons (Mrs Linda Staple the wife of our Past Deputy Provincial Grandmaster V. W. Bro. Gordon Staple, Mrs Rita Carter the wife of W. Bro. John Cater our Provincial Charity Steward and Mrs Mitch O’Connell the wife of W. Bro. Dean O’Connell Chairman of the “Light Blues Club”) presenting Dr Kay Taylor (Chair of the Trustees of the Beds & Northants MS Therapy Centre) with a cheque for £25,000 on behalf of the Province. How the “£3M Give Away” was allocated was decided by a Public Vote. In excess of 177,000 people voted to decide which Charities should benefit from this “£3M Give Away”. Of the votes cast, non-Masons cast some 87%. Within Bedfordshire over 3,000 votes were cast for our four nominated charities”.
Kay told us “The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Therapy Centre, based in Barkers Lane, Bedford, provides therapies and support for people living with MS. Our aim is to help people with MS to self-manage their condition and live life as fully as possible. On behalf of all of us who use the Centre I would like to thank Bedfordshire Freemasons for their generous support. We will use this incredible donation to upgrade our hydrotherapy pool that enables exercise and increased mobility to many of our clients”.
